BIG BOAT BEACH CLEAN
In 2020, the year of Coasts and Waters, Clean Coast Outer Hebrides has been selected by Sea-changers to take 12 volunteers to a remote part of the Isle of Lewis coastline to conduct a beach clean in an otherwise inaccessible region that has never been cleaned before. To access this region we will charter the Hebridean Adventures vessel, Monadh Liath. This project will directly benefit the local community by removing large volumes of potentially hazardous rubbish from the local coastal region which positively impacts a broad range of societal factors, as well as raising awareness of the seriousness of marine pollution. As part of this project we will be able to contribute to recording the types and weights/volumes of rubbish present as well as recording marine mammal sightings during the transit legs. The project will be registered with MCS Beach Watch and Surfers Against Sewage and we would use Terra Cycle to recycle all recovered plastics. This exciting project is the first of its kind on the Isle of Lewis and will be carefully documented in film and photography for dissemination to the public through our social media channels.
To apply to work on this project please email us at: hello@cleancoastoh.com with “Big Boat Beach Clean” in the subject line.
